Book the train to Deqing
Rail is the one thing every visitor books before arriving. Two routes, live times, and the three things that go wrong.

Deqing, not Moganshan
Moganshan railway station is on another line and does not serve the mountain. Set the destination to Deqing.
Book on your passport
Tickets are tied to the document used to buy them. The name and number must match the passport you carry that day.
The last 30 km
The Y1 shuttle from Deqing station runs seven times a day for RMB 10, with a gap from 10:40 to 13:00. A taxi is about RMB 100.

What to visit
Ten places on the mountain
American and British families built a summer colony up here from 1896, and about 250 of their stone villas are still standing. The rest of the mountain is bamboo, a handful of named sights behind a ticket barrier, and the villages that feed everybody.
When to go
Spring and autumn are the answer. Summer is why the hill station exists, and also when the whole of Shanghai has the same idea.
